Laser Drilling @ NCKU

GOALS: Design a COMSOL simulation that can simulate laser drilling on Aluminum Oxide and Aluminum Nitride & design an experiment to determine optimal laser drilling parameters

I spent the summer of 2025 in Taiwan studying laser drilling manufacturing on semiconducor materials under Professor Yu-Lung Lo. This simulation uses a femtosecond laser at 50 kHz & 400 laser pulses at a peak power of 24 W.

Experiment

Each column of laser drilled holes represents a different set of laser parameters.

We grided the samples to find the cross section and take measurements to define the taper ange.
